Warning: Grapefruit can be lethal

Experts are warning grapefruit poses a potentially lethal health risk to increasing numbers of people taking prescription drugs.

It contains chemicals that can interact with certain medicines, leading to kidney failure, respiratory failure or sudden death.

Scientists writing in the Canadian Medical Association Journal say the number of drugs which could cause serious harm by interacting with grapefruit has risen from 17 to 43.
