Meehan must wait to learn of future

Brian Meehan must wait to learn if he can proceed with his case to have his conviction for the murder of journalist Veronica Guerin declared a miscarriage of justice.

The 47 year old from Crumlin, in Dublin is the only person serving a life sentence for the fatal shooting of the Sunday Independent reporter.

The Court of Criminal Appeal has deferred a ruling on a bid by the Director of Public Prosecutions to strike out the proceedings on the grounds that there are no new or "newly discovered" facts that would justify the case going ahead.
