HIQA considering request to open statutory inquiry into Savita's death
HIQA has said that it is considering a HSE request for a statutory inquiry to examine the death of Savita Halappanavar at Galway University Hospital.
The group said that it will make a statement on the matter tomorrow - after it has reviewed the facts it has received on the case.
Meanwhile, the HSE chief executive designate - Tony O'Brien - said it would be criminally negligent for the Executive not to proceed with its own investigation in the meantime.
It has been confirmed Savita's hospital records will be made available to the team.
Labour Senator Ivana Bacik said that she is glad HIQA has been asked to intervene - as a Tribunal of Inquiry would not be the correct course of action:
