More than a third of Irish criminals re-offended within two years after being placed under probation supervision or community service in 2007, according to official figures.

The CSO study revealed that 3,576 people were placed under probation supervision or community service in 2007 and, of those, 1,332 (37.2%) reoffended within two years.
