A viable improvised explosive device has been made safe in south Dublin.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team carried out a controlled explosion on the device, which was found by gardaí in a vehicle parked outside a house in Firhouse overnight.

Residents at Carrigwood were evacuated for a time, before the scene was declared safe just after 3am this morning.
