Belfast vigil held in memory of Savita

People in Belfast have held a vigil outside City Hall, in memory of Savita Halappanavar.

The 31 year old died after suffering a miscarriage and septicaemia last month, having allegedly been refused a medical termination at University Hospital Galway.

The Northern event follows similar demonstrations in Dublin and Cork last night.

Rahul Be-dee, India Correspondent with the Irish Times in New Delhi, said that medical professionals there are shocked by Savita's death:

"It is a tragedy, there is no doubt about that I think everybody acknowledged the fact that it is a very sad incident that has taken place but there is shock among a few doctor friends I spoke with"
