Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown councillors vote in favour of marriage equality

Councillors in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area of Co. Dublin have this evening voted in favour of marriage equality at their November meeting.

A motion on the issue was added to the monthly agenda after the County Hall opened as a venue for civil marriages.

During this evening's debate, there was cross-party agreement that marriage should be extended to all citizens of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, irrespective of sexuality.

The Council does not have the power to set a legal precedent on the issue, but they will be passing their reccommendations on to the Justice Minister, Alan Shatter.
