Former Garda found dead in Cavan named

A post mortem is being carried out tonight on the body of a former Garda in his 40s shot dead in Cavan earlier.

The body of the man, named locally as John Kerins, was discovered at a house in a village close to Bailieborough this afternoon.

A team from the Garda Technical Bureau is carrying out a forensic examination of the scene, which has been sealed off.

Gardaí are investigating whether his death may be linked to the disappearance of another man in the area earlier this year.
