Hospital consultants seek meeting with HSE

The Irish Hospital Consultants Association is seeking a meeting with the HSE to discuss its reaction to proposals put forward by the Labour Relations Commission.

The IHCA said thai it is recommending that its members "engage in a collaborative approach to improve healthcare services", but they are highlighting concerns also.

The group said that a survey it conducted shows the majority of consultants they represent (57%) were in favour of the proposals.

However, they want to make it clear to the HSE that they believe that there are not enough consultants working in Ireland, and that implementing planned pay cuts for new consultants will reduce standards and drive graduates abroad.
