Kildare carpet factory to shed 60 jobs

A liquidator has been appointed to Curragh Carpets in Newbridge Co. Kildare, with the loss of 60 jobs.

Staff were informed at a meeting at lunchtime today that the plant would close with immediate effect.

SIPTU has said workers were informed that a liquidator had been appointed and they would have to apply to the Social Insurance fund for redundancy and outstanding payments.

Some workers at the firm have 40 years service.
