Christ the Redeemer to go green for Patrick's Day

Another global landmark is to mark St Patrick's Day next year by going green.

The iconic Christ the Redeemer statue which towers over the city of Rio De Janeiro will be illuminated in green light for the St Patrick's day 2013.

The announcement was made yesterday by President Michael D Higgins who is currently on an official visit to South America.

The statute joins a host of other landmarks turning green to mark our national holiday including the London Eye, Niagara Falls, the fountain outside the White House in Washington and Table Mountain in South Africa.
