A crop of genetically modified potatoes which were planted last August in Co Carlow have turned out blight-free, according to research carried out by Teagasc

The group has also revealed that standard potatoes planted beside the GM batch were diseased.

The State's agricultural training agency has been criticised by some for running the GM trial.

However, up to 60% of Irish farmers have expressed an interest in gowning genetically modified potatoes.
