Court appearance for man in connection with 2005 tiger kidnapping

A man is due in court in Dublin this morning in connection with a €2.28m tiger kidnapping in the city seven years ago.

A securicor worker and his family were falsely imprisoned in their home in Raheny in March 2005.

The 49-year-old man was arrested in Amsterdam yesterday on foot of a European arrest warrant and flown to Dublin Airport.

He was taken to Raheny garda station where he was charged in connection with the false imprisonment of a family on March 13 and 14, 2005.

At that time, a cash-in-transit van driver from Ashcroft in Raheny was forced to collect €2.28m in cash and drop it off at a pub in Lucan.

Meanwhile, his wife and two sons were abducted, tied up and left in woods in Co Wicklow overnight, where they managed to free themselves and raise the alarm.
