New digital platform promises to enhance Dublin living

A new initiative called 'Sustainable Connected Cities - Dublin' is being launched today.

Under that plan, citizens with smartphones and computers will be able to share intelligence with city managers and authorities on issues like flooding.

Dublin City Council is working with Trinity college and Intel on the project.

Intel's Martin Curley said that he wants to transform the way people live in the city.

"A platform called Citywatch will allow the citizens of Dublin to interact in real time with live data coming from both fixed sensors in the city and will allow people with smartphones to actually interact with the platform, he said.

"How this might evolve is 'ambient intelligence', this is a new wave of technology applications which react to people in the city to respond to issues but also anticipating needs."
