Monaghan Gardaí question two in connection with oil laundering
Two men are still in garda custody this morning, being held for questioning over two illegal oil laundering plants uncovered in counties Louth and Monaghan.
The facilities found by Gardaí and customs officers had the capacity to launder 20 million litres of fuel a year, with a potential loss of €10m to the Exchequer.
The plants were discovered near Carrickmacross in County Monaghan and in Muff, County Louth, during searches carried out as part of an intelligence-led operation.
The two men, aged 54 and 47, both from Louth, are being held at Carrickmacross Garda Station.
Up to 40,000 litres of laundered fuel and equipment were seized in the operation along with two trucks, two vans and a car.
