Thousands march to honour Irish murder victim in Melbourne

More than 30,000 people took to the streets of Melbourne in Australia yesterday to honour murdered Irish woman Jill Meagher.

The 29-year-old Louth woman was abducted and murdered on Friday, September 22, as she walked home from a night out with work colleagues, at a bar five minutes from her home.

Jill's mother, Edith McKeon, attended the march and read out hundreds of messages attached to flowers left for her daughter.

Organiser of the "peace march", Philip Werner, said he was overwhelmed by the amount of people who came out in solidarity against violence.
