Man due in court charged in connection with Eugene Gillespie murder
A man in his 20s is due to appear at a special sitting of Carrick On Shannon District Court at 2pm today, charged in relation to the death of Eugene Gillespie in Sligo.
The 67-year-old died last weekend, after he was found tied up and beaten at his house on Old Market Street.
Large crowds turned out at his funeral yesterday, and heard parish priest Fr Dominick Gillooly remember Eugene Gillespie as a well-liked man in the area.
"This great throng that has gathered...all bears eloquent testimony to the love and esteem in which Eugene was held by all who have known him," he said.
Yesterday, investigating officers arrested a man in connection with Mr Gillespie's murder.
