Gillespie murder: Man must be released or charged today
Gardaí investigating the murder of Eugene Gillespie in Sligo Town say the man being questioned in connection with his death must either be released or charged later today.
The 67-year-old died last weekend, after he was found tied up and beaten at his house on Old Market Street.
Large crowds turned out at his funeral yesterday, and heard parish priest Fr Dominick Gillooly remember Eugene Gillespie as a well-liked man in the area.
"This great throng that has gathered...all bears eloquent testimony to the love and esteem in which Eugene was held by all who have known him," he said.
Yesterday, investigating officers arrested a man in his 20s in connection with Mr Gillespie's murder.
He is being detained at Sligo garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
