Gardaí investigate gangland-style shooting in Laois

A man has been shot dead in a gangland-style gun attack on a housing estate.

The victim, who was in his 20s, was gunned down in Kilnacourt Woods, Portarlington, Co Laois, at 8.30am.

He was rushed to Tullamore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A Garda spokesman said the scene has been preserved and the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.

It is believed the victim was originally from Dublin city centre.
