Court charges man with murder of Dublin mother of two

A 31-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with the murder of a mother-of-two who died following a fatal stabbing in her home in Dublin on Friday night.

Anna Finnegan (aged 25) died in hospital after she was stabbed at her home at Allendale Glen in Clonsilla. She had been left at the entrance to the Accident and Emergency Department of James Connolly Memorial Hospital, in Blanchardstown, just after 9pm on Friday night and was pronounced dead about an hour-and-a-half later.

Her two young children, aged two and nine months, were asleep upstairs in the house at the time.

Her brother Karl was also injured in the attack and is in a stable condition at James Connolly Connolly Memorial Hospital. A man had been arrested on Saturday and was held for questioning in connection with the fatality.

This morning Vesel Jahiri (aged 31), the father of Anna Finnegan's two small children, was brought before Blanchardstown District Court charged with murdering the 25-year-old woman.

Detective Garda Bernard Connaugthon told Judge Hugh O'Donnell that he arrested Mr Jahiri, who has an address at Lohunda Crescent in Clonsilla, at 11.56 pm yesterday at Blanchardstown Garda station. He was charged 24 minutes later and in reply said: “That's not true.”

Dressed in a grey hooded top, white T-shirt and black trousers, he did not address the court during the brief hearing this morning.

Mr Jahiri was remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.

Judge O'Donnell also directed that he was to receive appropriate medical treatment in custody.
