Gardaí investigate fatal Laois shooting

A man has been shot dead in County Laois.

The victim, in his 20s, was wounded in the incident in the Kilnacourt Woods Housing Estate in Portarlington at about 8.30am this morning.

He was taken to Tullamore General Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination, and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
