Garda in hospital after serious assault in Limerick

Gardaí in Limerick are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault of one of their members.

The off-duty garda, who is in his 30s, was attacked by three men as he walked home with his wife in the St Patrick's Road area of the city at around 3.30am this morning.

He was struck across the face and sustained a serious head injury after falling to the ground.

He was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, where he is in a serious condition.

Gardaí at Henry Street are appealing for information.
