British royals in bid to stop further publication of nude photos
The future of the Irish Daily Star is in doubt after the paper printed topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge yesterday.
The National Union of Journalists has said it is gravely concerned for 70 jobs at the tabloid after the Chairman of the British group that co-owns the paper said he was taking immediate steps to close down the joint venture.
Lawyers for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to appear in court in Paris tomorrow to try to stop further publication of the photos.
The NUJ has said it has been in contact with Richard Desmond's Northern & Shell group and understands that it now wants to end publication of the paper after the decision to publish the photos.
Secretary of the NUJ, Seamus Dooley, has said Mr Desmond's decision to sever ties with the Irish Daily Star is "disproportionate".
