Group to protest closure of Galway asylum centre

A rally takes place in Galway city centre later in protest at the planned closure of one of the west's largest hostels for asylum seekers, Lisbrook House.

Over 270 residents at the centre, formerly the Ibis Hotel in Galway, face dispersal to other locations after they were given less than a week's notice of its closure.

The Lisbrook House Support Group has organised a demonstration in Eyre Square at lunchtime, calling on the Minister for Justice Alan Shatter to postpone the decision.

Spokesperson Christina Nic Dhonnacha said the residents at Lisbrook House do a lot of voluntary work and are well integrated in Galway.
