Ruling allows customers to sue international online vendors from home

There is good news today for Irish consumers who have purchased dodgy goods online from another EU State.

Up to now, the trader or person who sold the item could only be sued in the state where the item was purchased.

Under new regulations, the seller of the faulty product can now be pursued in any EU state.

Alicia O'Rourke of the EU Office in Dublin says this development is good news for consumers.

“It means in reality, customers who buy products online from another EU country can go to court at home if any problems occur later.

“Basically what this judgement does is strengthen the customer’s position.”
