A vehicle with a female driver inside has been struck by a train in Tipperary.

The incident, involving the 6.20PM service from Ballybrophy to Limerick, happened at around 8.00pm this evening at Kelly's Crossing in Birdhill.

The woman was was taken to hospital in Limerick - but it is understood that she is being treated for shock and was not seriously injured.

The 8 passengers onboard the train were also uninjured.

The Rail Accident Investigation Unit has now launched an investigation into the incident.
