Suspect package at embassy declared false alarm

A security alert at the Israeli Embassy in Dublin has been declared a false alarm.

The building on Pembroke Road was evacuated for a time while an examination of a suspicious package was carried out.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team was deployed to the Israeli Embassy after staff, who became concerned about what was described as a suspicious package or object, contacted Gardaí at around 11am this morning.

The building was subsequently evacuated, but Pembroke Road in Ballsbridge, where the embassy is located, remained open to traffic and the adjacent buildings also remained occupied during the security alert.

The incident was declared a false alarm just before 1pm this afternoon and staff were allowed back inside.

A Defence Force spokesperson said the package at the centre of the scare had a number of other packages inside, but was found to have no malicious contents.
