A weather warning remains in place as hurricane-like weather is due to hit the country this afternoon.

Heavy rain and strong gales are forecasted and it is expected the south of the country will be the worst affected.

Forecasters are warning that conditions may be as bad as those experienced during the infamous "Hurricane Charley" of 1986.

Gerald Fleming of Met Éireann has said it will be clear to start but the bad weather is expected in the afternoon.
