Two teenage kayakers are recovering after they were rescued from a cave in west Cork early this morning.

The boy and girl had been reported missing from Rosscarbery last night, prompting a major search operation by Baltimore RNLI lifeboat and coastguard units.

Rescuers heard a faint whistle coming from Mill cave and swam inside in dangerous rough conditions to find the two teenagers trapped in the cave and clinging to a rock.

They were carried to safety and then brought ashore by lifeboat to their families.
