Quinn to resolve teacher vetting issue 'fairly quickly'

The Education Minister Ruairí Quinn says he hopes to resolve the issue of unvetted teachers fairly quickly.

The Teaching Council has admitted 42,000 teachers are working with children though they haven't been vetted.

It's because of a shortage of resources in the Garda Vetting Unit, and in the Teaching Council.

Minister Ruairí Quinn says this backlog will be resolved: "We are talking to the Teaching Council, who have a responsibility for the professional qualificaitions and ongoing registration with teachers.

"There is a staffing issue there which I hope I will get resolve fairly quickly."
