Dublin Councillor jailed over failure to pay fine

Éirigí Dublin City Councillor Louise Minihan has been taken to Mountjoy Prison to serve a seven-day sentence.

She is serving the week-long sentence over the 2010 incident in which she threw red paint on then Health Minister Mary Harney at Cherry Orchard Hospital in West Dublin.

Shortly after 2pm this afternoon Cllr Minihan was rearrested in her Ballyfermot costituency, and brought to the jail.

In February of 2011, Cllr Minihan was handed a two-month suspended sentence and a €1,500 fine for the attack.

Her re-arrest today came following her refusal to pay that fine.
