Diabetes patients warned to keep up health checks

Diabetes patients are being warned to have their blood pressure and kidney function checked every year.

Research shows the rates of stroke and kidney failure among such patients have reached record levels in Ireland.

There was a 62% jump in the number of diabetes patients being treated for kidney failure between 2006 and 2010 while incidences of stroke rose by 36%.

Dr Anna Clarke from Diabetes Ireland advised people with diabetes to ensure they keep up with their health checks, eat well and exercise as much as possible.
