The Justice Minister Alan Shatter has said the Government would seriously consider sending gardaí to Mauritius, if the authorities there asked for assistance.

Alan Shatter has also described the publication of photographs of Michaela McAreavey's body by a Mauritian newspaper as "appalling, unacceptable" and "indefensible".

However, he added that no such request has been forthcoming.
