Children's Minister knows Phoneix Park stabbing victim

The Minister for Children has revealed she knows one of the young men stabbed at a concert in Dublin's Phoenix Park at the weekend.

Frances Fitzgerald said young people and their parents did not expect concerts to be a life-endangering event.

The concert promoters MCD met senior Gardaí last night, and a report on the day's events is set to be published next month.

However MCD said there was more than the required level of security at the site.

Separately, Minister Fitzgerald said the scenes that music fans witnessed on Saturday highlighted two of the major problems in Irish society.

"The concert showcased one of our most serious problems, in relation to young people and alcohol and drugs," she said.
