Met Éireann issues wet weather warning

Met Éireann has issued a wet weather warning - with between 25 and 40 millimetres of rain expected to fall in some places overnight.

There is a risk of local flooding, particularly in parts of the south-east.

However the rain is expected to ease off over Leinster and Munster by tomorrow.

Meteorologist Deirdre Lowe has said that although the showers are not that heavy, it has issued a weather warning because of the persisent nature of the rain:

"It's not very intense rain it's more sort of because it's over a prolong period. It's only really parts of Munster and Leinster at risk", she said.

"The worst effected areas will be in the south-east where there has been 20 millimetres so far in parts of Wexford".
