An alarm monitoring firm has announced 60 new jobs for Sandyford in Dublin.

Alarm Control 24 is creating the positions, after it invested €3m in rolling out its new "radio telemetry network".

Many criminals are now using GSM blockers when they break into homes or businesses. These devices prevent an alarm-monitoring company from knowing about the break in and contacting the Gardaí.

Director of Alarm Control 24 and Action Security Systems Derek Mooney said their company's new technology would prevent thieves from using GSM blockers.

"When our device is attached to any alarm system, when that alarm activates, it's through to our monitoring system within half a second and it can't be blocked (because) it doesn't use the cellular network," he said.
