Study shows more children with social network profile

Calls are being made for children to be taught how to stay safe online in primary schools.

It comes as a new study from DIT shows that half of all 11 and 12-year-old children in Ireland now have a profile on a social networking site.

It also found that 18% of all nine and 10 year olds with online profiles have not changed their privacy settings.

Sites like Facebook and Bebo have an age restriction of 13 years, but many Irish children are lying on their profiles, so they can set up their own page.
