Four still in custody over Leinster drugs seizures

Two men remain in Garda custody this morning after what is believed to be one of the biggest drug seizures in the history of the State.

Over €28m worth of cocaine was found during searches in Kildare and Dublin yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, two more men were arrested after drugs with an estimated street value of over €550,000 were discovered in Rathfarnham in Dublin.

Gardaí are working with international colleagues as to the origins and destination of what amounts to the biggest inland seizure of cocaine ever in this country.

About 350kg of the drug with a street value of over €28m was discovered during searches by Gardai and Revenue Officers in west Dublin and Kildare.

A 42-year-old man was arrested in Tallaght while a second man, aged 31, was arrested in Leixlip.

Meanwhile yesterday afternnon gardaí discovered cocaine worth €280,000 and herbal cannabis with a street value of €275,000 during searches of a car and a van in Rathfarnham.

They also recovered two shotguns and later €100,000 in cash from a nearby apartment.

Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested and are being detained at Rathfarnham and Tallaght Garda Stations.
