Gardaí in Dublin are appealing for information in relation to the murder of journalist Eugene Moloney in the city at the weekend.

The 55-year-old, who worked for many years for the Irish Independent, was attacked after he was confronted by a number of men on Camden Street in the early hours of Sunday.

Tributes are being paid to Mr Moloney today with the National Union of Journalists calling him "a vibrant, enthusiastic journalist with an engaging personality".

Two men in their 20s have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being held at Kevin Street and Pearse Street garda stations.

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan has also sent his condolences to Mr Moloney's family.

"We are working very, very hard to bring matters to a successful conclusion in this investigation, and I would like to extend our sympathy to the family of the deceased," he said.
