A woman in her 50s is being rescued from the Wicklow mountains after she became unwell suddenly.

The walker is suffering from hypothermia and needs medical attention.

The Coastguard, advanced paramedics and the Dublin and Wicklow mountain rescue team have gone to the woman's assistance on Djouce mountain, south west of Enniskerry in Co Dublin.

It is understood the woman is suffering from slight hypothermia.

The Coastguard helicopter transferred rescue personnel to the site and is now refueling at Dublin airport before returning to bring the woman to hospital.

She is currently being brought down the mountain to Lough Tay by rescue personnel, where the team will rendezvous with the Coastguard helicopter.

Visibility in the area is poor. If it does not improve, she may have to be brought to hospital by road.

Rescue personnel say the woman is in a comfortable position.
