An army bomb disposal team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Clonsilla, Dublin this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to a residential estate in the Willow Wood area of Clonsilla following a request from the gardai.

The team arrived on scene at 3.10pm and examined the device which had been placed through the letterbox of a private residence.

The viable IED was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion; the scene was declared safe at 3.45pm

The device has been removed to a secure military location for further analysis after which it will then be handed over to the gardaí.
