McAreavey trial adjourned for day

The trial of two men accused of murdering honeymooner Michaela McAreavey has been adjourned for a day to allow time for lawyers to address outstanding legal issues.

Judge Mr Justice Prithviraj Fecknah allowed the request by defence barrister Rama Valayden to raise court until tomorrow morning.

“If what’s being done is in the interests of justice I think we can have one day to sort things out,” he told the Supreme Court in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Mrs McAreavey, 27, was found dead in her room at the luxury Legends Hotel on the island last January.

Former hotel employees Avinash Treebhoowoon, 31, and Sandip Moneea, 42, deny murdering the daughter of Tyrone football boss Mickey Harte.
