Minister: Ireland will continue to strive for better debt deal

A member of the Cabinet has said that the fight for a better deal for Ireland on banking debt continues.

Financial markets across Asia and Europe have reacted positively on the first day of trading since the Spanish banks rescue package was announced.

Junior Finance Minister Brian Hayes has denied Spain got a better deal on their bailout.

Meanwhile Health Minister Dr James Reilly said that hopes to renegotiate our banking debts remain.

"We'll always be looking for renegotiation and improvement of our terms as we meet the Troika's requirements on an ongoing basis," he said.

"We have three monthly meetings where we mark progress.

"We've met all the requirement under those meetings - and as we meet those requirements we expect... more latitude being given to us as to how we manage our affairs."
