The Government has today pledged €50,000 to support the rehabilitation of former child soldiers in Sierra Leone.

Junior Minister for Trade and Development Joe Costello said that the funding will go towards counselling and training as part of the Caritas programme.

The money will extend the programme into more towns and villages throughout Sierra Leone, where around 50,000 people died in the civil war between 1991 and 2001.
