Man charged with partner's murder in Dublin

A Polish man has appeared at Dublin District Court charged with the murder of his partner, at their flat in Dublin's north inner city.

Forty-four-year-old Waldemar Solowiow, with an address at Sherrard Street, has been remanded in custody for a week.

Thirty-seven--year-old Mary Ryan was found unconscious at the foot of the stairs in her home in Sherrard Street at around 11am last Saturday.

She was taken to the Mater Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The next day her partner Waldemar Solowiow was arrested and brought to Mountjoy garda station.

The court heard from Detective Ian Brunton that he replied "nothing" late last night when he was charged with her murder on Friday or Saturday last.

The 44-year-old unemployed man followed the proceedings with the aid of a Polish interpreter.

Judge Grainne Malone granted legal aid and recommended that he receive appropriate medical attention following a request from his solicitor who said he may have physical and psychological difficulties.
