Gardaí investigate woman's death in Dublin

Gardaí in Dublin have launched an investigation after a woman was died, following an assault.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, was found seriously assaulted at an apartment on Sherrard Street at around 11am this morning.

She was taken to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where she subsequently died.

The scene has now been sealed off for a technical examination and Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A post mortem is expected to be conducted on the woman's body later today.
