Girl injured, grandmother dies in Cork car crash
A 65-year-old woman from Mallow has been killed in a two-vehicle collision near Castletownroche in North Cork.
The crash, involving the car the woman was driving and a truck, happened at 10.10am this morning at Reas Cross, on the Castletownroche to Mallow road on the N72.
A nine-year-old girl, the victim's grand-daughter, who was also in the car was uninjured.
It is thought the child's booster seat saved her from serious injury.
The road remains closed at the Killavullen turn-off, pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local diversions are in place.
Motorists are being advised that the N73, which is an alternative route, is also closed due to roadworks.
