A post mortem is underway on the body of a man who was stabbed to death in Cork this morning.

A post mortem is underway on the body of a man who was stabbed to death in Cork this morning.

At about 2am, the 31-year-old man suffered serious stab wounds when a fight reportedly broke out on Infirmary Road near the city centre.

Gardaí are continuing to question two people in connection with the attack.

The victim, who was a local man, was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were arrested close to the scene and are being held at the Bridewell Garda station in Cork.

Gardaí at Anglesea Street are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
