Firemen recover after May Eve assaults in Limerick
Two firemen are recovering this afternoon after been attacked while tackling blazes in Limerick last night.
Around 40 fire fighters were deployed to deal with numerous bonfires that were lit as part of the city's traditional May Eve festivities.
One fireman was struck in the face by a glass bottle and needed stitches, while another was hit with an iron bar.
Chief Fire Officer in Limerick, Michael Ryan, said the assaults, while rare, have been passed onto the Gardaí.
