Kenny: 'peculiar' evicted couple didn't make other arrangements

The Taoiseach has said that it is "peculiar" that a couple evicted from their Dublin home this week did not make arrangements to live somewhere else.

It has emerged that Brendan and Asta Kelly , who are now living in a tent outside their €2 million Killiney home, have a large portfolio of properties.

Earlier the Finance Minister Michael Noonan said that although there are a series of policies to deal with people in difficulty, the Government has not pledged to keep people in "21 different homes".

Enda Kenny has said he can't understand why if the couple had two years notice of the eviction proceedings they didn't move elsewhere.

"I'm quite sure that there were a lot of discussions and negotiations following the decision to take the property and as I say if there are that many alternatives available to live in perhaps other arrangements should have been arrived"
